Land Shark 101
Puppy biting is the number one reason new owners feel at the end of their rope. Your hands, your sleeves, your ankles, the kids' toes: nothing is safe. The good news is that biting is normal, it has a purpose, and it gets better with the right approach.
What to do this week
- Always have a toy in your hand. When your puppy goes for your hands, offer a tug toy or chew instead. Praise when they bite the toy.
- Make hands boring. If teeth touch skin, calmly stop moving, say a short word like "oops", and turn away or remove your hand for a few seconds. Then offer the toy again.
- End the game if it keeps happening. Calmly step over the baby gate or put the puppy in their pen with a chew for a minute or two. No yelling, no drama.
…the chapter continues with 3 more steps, biting and children, what to avoid, when it usually stops, and a tick-off checklist.
